Indian shares ended Friday’s choppy session modestly higher as investors awaited earnings from prominent companies such as Reliance Industries and SBI Card.
The benchmark 30-share Sensex ended the session up 138.59 points, or 0.26 percent, at 52,975.80 on the back of positive global cues.
The broader NSE Nifty index settled 32 points, or 0.20 percent, higher at 15,856.05 after slipping below 15,800 mark in early trade.
Tata Consumer Products, SBI Life, Wipro, ITC and ICICI Bank climbed 2-3 percent in the Nifty pack, while Adani Ports, Grasim and Tata Motors all fell around 2 percent.
Vodafone Idea shares plunged 9.2 percent as the Supreme Court rejected pleas of telecom majors for correction of alleged errors in adjusted gross revenue (AGR) calculation. Rival Bharti Airtel ended little changed.
Shares of Zomato ended the day at Rs 125.30 on the NSE, a premium of nearly 65 percent as compared with the initial public offering price of Rs 76 per share.
Mphasis jumped 4.8 percent as it reported a 23.4 percent year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit for the June quarter.
