Indian shares opened a tad higher on Tuesday after data showed the country’s retail inflation slowed in August, defying expectations for stability.

The benchmark 30-share Sensex edged up 192 points, or 0.3 percent, to 58,369 in early trade, while the broader NSE Nifty index was up 63 points, or 0.4 percent, at 17,419.

Hero MotoCorp, Eicher Motors, Britannia Industries, Divis Laboratories and Adani Ports rallied 1-2 percent while Grasim, Hindalco and Hindustan Unilever were seeing modest losses.

Vodafone Idea rose about 1 percent. Banks led by SBI have called on the government to give the debt-laden company more time to clear its dues.

ARSS Infrastructure Projects fell 2.4 percent after SBI filed a petition under IBC alleging Rs 2,273 crore payment default.

Allcargo Logistics dropped 2.2 percent. The company has dropped plans to delist its shares.

Shriram City Union Finance advanced 1.6 percent on fund raising reports.

KNR Constructions surged 4.2 percent on receiving a letter of acceptance for Hyderabad Growth Corridor project.
