Indian shares ended on a flat note Friday after reaching record highs in intraday deals in thin trade.

The benchmark 30-share BSE Sensex surged to a record high of 53,290.81 before giving up all gains to end the session down 18.79 points, or 0.04 percent, at 53,140.06.

The broader NSE Nifty index slipped 0.80 points, or 0.01 percent, to settle at 15,923.40 amid a mixed trend in global markets.

Wipro, which delivered its best ever quarter, rallied over 2 percent in early trade before ending marginally higher for the day.

HCL Technologies tumbled 3.3 percent and Infosys dropped 1.5 percent.

Adani Ports, Bajaj FinServ and Eicher Motors gave up 1-2 percent.

Among the top gainers, UltraTech Cement, Bharti Airtel and Divis Laboratories climbed 2-3 percent.
