Between May and June, Canada added more than 1 million jobs. To put that in context, that’s about 40 per cent of the roughly 3 million jobs lost during the pandemic.

On this week’s episode of Down to Business, Fabian Lange, Canadian Research Chair in Labour and Personnel Economics at McGill University, discussed how the pandemic has affected employment across Canada.
Lange said the pandemic forced labour economists to study everything a little closer: Were wages really rising? Were employment numbers improving as quickly they should have improved? There were multiple answers to nearly every question.
He also spoke about what lies ahead as provinces across Canada ease COVID-19 restrictions, and which policies could ensure that employment numbers don’t fall further.
